Wednesday 17th April 2019 – Conference Tours
Your tour will leave Westcourt, Jesus College at 2pm and will be led by our highly trained and entertaining Guides who love to share their inside knowledge of Cambridge and are ready to help you make the most of your time in our lovely city. The walking tour, lasting approximately 2 hours, will cover the historic heart of the city including the golden Corpus Clock; the formal and ceremonial centre of the University, The Senate House and Old Schools; stunning colleges such as King’s, Corpus Christi and Trinity (external views) and the Old Cavendish Laboratory, home of world-changing scientific discoveries.
Participants will learn about student life and pranks, see well-known landmarks and hear fascinating insights from more than 800 years of University history.
Punting and walking tour
Your tour starts at Westcourt, Jesus College at 2:45pm where a highly trained guide will take you on a walking tour covering the historic heart of the city including the golden Corpus Clock which will last approximately 1 hour. This will be followed by the essential part of any Cambridge experience, our punt tour through the Backs takes you along one of the most beautiful lengths of river in England. Discover how the city has evolved from medieval market town to its position today as a world-famous centre of academic excellence whilst enjoying the spectacular views. From the gothic splendour of King’s College, to the classical elegance of Clare College, your punting guide will make sure that you don’t miss a thing.
The coach will arrive at the Victoria Avenue entrance of Jesus College at 1:15pm and will depart for Ely Cathedral at 1:30pm. A dedicated guide will escort your around the 900 year old cathedral, piece of significant historical and architectural significance. This guided tour will last approximately an hour and you will then have some time to enjoy the cathedral at your own pace before the coach collects you at 4:45pm to return back to Jesus College.
Mullard Radio Astronomy Tour
The coach will arrive at the Victoria Avenue entrance of Jesus College at 1:15pm and will depart for Mullard at 1:30pm. A dedicated astronomer guide will escort your around the site – showing you amongst other things where Pulsars were discovered. This guided tour will last approximately two and a half hours and the coach collects you at 5 pm to return back to Jesus College.
Wednesday 17th April 2019 – Gala Dinner
All conference delegates are invited to our celebration conference dinner at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 17th April 2019. The dinner will be formal – with some special guests – dress code is smart – i.e. no jeans trainers or t shirts please. We look forward to celebrating a great week of science and thanking those who have made it possible.
